The Mestia to Ushguli road is the classic Upper Svaneti route — around 2 hours each way, now mostly paved with concrete, with one rough section past Kala village. It leads to one of Europe's highest permanently inhabited villages, under Mount Shkhara.

Road and seasonal note

The Mestia–Ushguli road is now mostly paved with concrete; one rough section remains, with ongoing construction and a stream crossing in the gorge past Kala village. Rivers can flood parts of the road after heavy rain, and it's often impassable after snow — we confirm before committing.
